Two tech firms operating under the Hong Kong Smart Government Innovation Lab recently announced that they have launched new solutions which are now ready to be acquired by companies and institutions.
Solution one – TIBCO Smart Cities
Solution description
A smart city leverages digital technology and the IoT to improve quality and performance for engaging more effectively and actively with citizens. The complete smart city solution provided by the Hong Kong-based firm includes government services, as well as energy, healthcare, traffic, transportation, waste, and water management.
Application Areas
The solution was developed to be applied in the areas of City Management, Commerce and Industry, Environment as well as Health.
Technologies Used
The solution was developed using the latest in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning, Mobile Technologies, Predictive Analytics and Video Analytics.
Use Case
With the tech firm’s smart city framework, intelligence can be embedded into edge devices to unlock greater possibilities. They include acting on data in real-time and better project outcomes. With accessible analytics including data visualization, streaming analytics, and data science, which enable a clearer understanding of data and insights supporting better decisions.
Using predictive analytics and data-driven collaboration, the solution can help improve model-driven insights, make faster decisions, and intervene earlier. Departments can more effectively monitor changes in quality and performance and identify areas at risk for public health and other major and minor issues.
With a smart IoT infrastructure, the solution can also help create connected solutions that lead to reduced costs and new revenue streams. Examples include electric vehicle charging, smart street lighting, smart buildings, and better energy management. A smart city framework enables communities to create a secure and open ecosystem with easy on-boarding of trusted partner service providers and citizens.
A complete smart city solution ensures that data is secure and efficiently accessible on a common platform to reduce complexity, control critical functions, adapt to new operating models, automate manual processes, and improve visibility.
Solution two – Smart carpark solution
Solution description
Through this solution, different wired or wireless sensors can be installed in existing parking lots (depending on the needs of the venue), and Internet of Things technology is used to record the usage in the parking lot. The IoT technology includes mobile apps and websites which enable users to perform various functions in real-time including locate vacant parking spaces, make reservations, and pay parking fees to help the public find vacant parking spaces and facilitate drivers to find their vehicles.
If multiple parking lots use the same system, data aggregated and used to analyse the needs and behaviours of parking spaces in different areas. Also, other smart devices can be added through the Internet of Things to improve parking services and operations.
Application Areas
The solution was developed to be applied in the areas of City Management, Housing and Transport.
Technologies Used
The solution was developed using Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Mobile Technologies as well as Predictive Analytics.
Use Case
Parking spaces in Hong Kong are tight, especially in some downtown areas such as Mong Kok and Central. People often need to park on the road or wait in circles because they can’t find a parking space, causing traffic jams and wasting waiting time.
Through this program, citizens can check the usage of the parking spaces at the destination in advance and make reservations and payments. If they find that the parking lot is full at the time of arrival, they can promptly decide whether to use other means of transportation to save time.
