In a significant step towards enhancing digital capabilities and workforce development, Ms Rattana Charoonsakdi, Director of the Digital for Society Promotion Division at the Office of the National Digital Economy and Society Commission (NDC), hosted a pivotal meeting with representatives from the Institute of Information and Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation (IITP) of South Korea.

Under Ms. Rattana’s leadership, the National Digital Council (NDC) has launched several initiatives aimed at enhancing digital skills and advancing Thailand’s digital workforce. These efforts are crucial in preparing the Thai population for digital citizenship and the demands of the evolving digital economy. Notable projects include enhancing media and information literacy, supporting Cyber Scouts to protect children and youth from online threats, developing a network of digital volunteers, and establishing community digital centres.

A central aspect of the meeting was the presentation of the NDC’s strategic guidelines for implementing these digital skills and workforce development projects. These guidelines are designed to elevate the competency of the population, ensuring they are well-equipped to navigate the digital landscape. For instance, the survey project on media and information literacy aims to assess and improve the public’s ability to discern credible information and engage effectively with digital media.

The Cyber Scouts initiative focuses on protecting young people from online dangers by providing education and resources to combat cyberbullying and other threats. Additionally, the network of digital volunteers is intended to foster community engagement and support digital initiatives at the grassroots level.

The delegation from IITP, including Mr Jeong Jea Hun, Director of the Digital HR Development Division, and Mr Jason Park, Manager of the same division, engaged in meaningful discussions about their agency’s missions and strategies. IITP is known for its focus on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and developing human resources to meet the needs of the digital era. The Korean delegation shared insights into their current projects and strategic approaches, which align closely with the objectives of the NDC.

Most of the discussion centred on exploring opportunities for future collaboration between the NDC and IITP. Both organisations recognised the potential for synergy in various fields, including AI development and digital human resources. The exchange of ideas covered several areas where joint efforts could enhance the effectiveness of their respective programmes. For example, collaboration could involve:

  • Sharing best practices in AI utilisation.
  • Developing joint training programmes for digital skills.
  • Creating cross-border initiatives to address common challenges in the digital workforce sector.

The meeting also underscored the importance of international cooperation in advancing digital technology and workforce development. By leveraging each other’s expertise and resources, Thailand and South Korea aim to address the challenges of the digital age more effectively. The partnership is expected to foster innovation, improve digital literacy, and create new opportunities for both nations in the global digital economy.

The NDC and IITP plan to build on this collaboration by establishing specific projects and initiatives that capitalise on their combined strengths. The goal is to implement cutting-edge solutions to benefit both countries and set a global benchmark for digital workforce development.

The meeting between the NDC and IITP represents a crucial step in advancing digital technology and human resource development. Both organisations are working towards a future where their populations are better prepared for the digital economy by focusing on digital skills enhancement, AI utilisation, and international collaboration. “This partnership highlights the importance of global cooperation in addressing digital challenges and sets the stage for innovative solutions that can drive progress in the digital era,” concluded Ms Rattana.
