These efforts not only highlight Hong Kong’s growing influence in the global tech arena but also underscore the region’s commitment to driving forward technological progress and creating impactful solutions across various industries.

This landmark event highlighted the achievements of five innovative Hong Kong start-ups, which collectively secured over US$15 million (approximately HK$117 million) in contracts and investments from Silicon Valley in just a few months.

The programme, a key initiative by HKSTP, was designed to help Hong Kong start-ups expand into the US market and other international territories. Over a rigorous six-month period, the selected start-ups received comprehensive training and support, which enabled them to showcase their cutting-edge innovations in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) and green technology on a global platform.

The initiative, in collaboration with the global innovation platform Plug and Play, offered tailored business development, fundraising, and market entry strategies to each start-up. This support was instrumental in helping them establish a foothold not only in North America but also in other international markets.

Albert Wong, Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP, expressed his pride in the start-ups’ achievements, stating, “I am immensely proud of the accomplishments of these five start-ups, which demonstrate that Hong Kong start-ups have the potential to make a significant impact on the global stage. HKSTP’s mission has always been to propel the success of our partners, and we are excited to continue supporting more start-ups as they reach new heights and drive global innovation.”

The start-ups that participated in the programme span a variety of industries, each showcasing a unique set of cutting-edge innovations. Their diverse approaches highlight the broad spectrum of advancements driving progress across multiple sectors. Collectively, these start-ups exemplify the forefront of technological advancement and sustainability.

One start-up, an award-winning digital marketing agency, leverages AI and machine learning to optimise ad campaigns for small and medium-sized businesses. Its platform helps over 2,000 global clients achieve more effective marketing results by automating campaign management.

Another company specialises in smart manufacturing and industrial automation, focusing on an advanced vacuum-insulated glass solution. This technology reduces energy consumption in buildings, supports sustainability efforts, and contributes to combating global warming.

A third start-up develops advanced robotics utilising AI, IoT, and autonomous driving technologies. Their products, including autonomous delivery and disinfection robots, address labour shortages and operational challenges in sectors such as healthcare and hospitality.

An environmental tech start-up offers biodegradable and compostable raw materials made from plant-based fibres. These medical-grade materials are designed to be fully biodegradable within six months and are applicable in various products such as surgical masks and air filters.

Lastly, a deep tech firm uses AI to enhance smart city technologies, particularly in property inspections. Its patented technology employs image processing and machine learning to identify building defects quickly, which helps in faster repairs, reduces human error, and minimises costs.

Looking ahead, HKSTP is preparing for the next cohort of the Global Booster Programme, set to launch in 2025. The expanded programme will accommodate ten start-ups, further enhancing Hong Kong’s presence in the global innovation and technology ecosystem. This ongoing effort by HKSTP aims to drive success for emerging entrepreneurs and reinforce Hong Kong’s position as a hub for technological advancement and international collaboration.
