In order to counter the escalating threat of cybercrime, the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) has launched the SIAP #JagaRuangSiber campaign as a preventive and awareness initiative for the public. This campaign adopts a human-centric approach, aiming to involve all segments of society.
Through this comprehensive campaign, BSSN aims to impart an understanding of the importance of safeguarding the security and sustainability of cyberspace. By fostering collective awareness, individuals are anticipated to become more vigilant and actively protect themselves from cyber threats.
Ariandi Putra, the spokesperson for BSSN, explains that the campaign seeks to unite the efforts of all stakeholders, encompassing individuals and organisations, in preserving cyberspace security. In the #JagaRuangSiber campaign, BSSN encourages the public to learn preventive measures, fortify network and system security, and adopt safe internet practices.
By doing so, the campaign aspires to establish a resilient and well-protected cyberspace ecosystem resilient against cybercrime attacks.
The SIAP #JagaRuangSiber campaign serves as a call to action for the public to promote a secure cyber environment actively. BSSN underscored the significance of collaborative efforts to combat cyber threats and emphasised the need for continuous learning and adaptation to evolving cybersecurity risks. The campaign offers educational resources, practical guidance, and awareness-raising activities to empower individuals and organisations to navigate the digital landscape safely.
Developing literacy in the realm of cyberspace involves strengthening understanding of crucial aspects such as personal data protection, cyberattack threats, associated financial risks, corporate security, and other related matters.
Enhancing gadget security is a crucial factor that emphasises the importance of implementing security measures on digital devices. It includes enabling screen locks, securing WiFi networks, regularly updating operating systems, exercising caution with installed applications and downloads, and adopting other practices that support overall gadget security.
Meanwhile, reinforcing passwords is an important aspect of maintaining digital security, yet many overlook it. People tend to use easily guessable passwords such as birthdates or the names of close individuals, which unauthorised parties can easily compromise. Therefore, raising awareness about the importance of using strong, complex, and unpredictable passwords is vital.
Easy-to-guess passwords are at risk of vulnerability to cybercrime. BSSN advises creating complex passwords to maintain device and data security while remaining easily memorable.
Additionally, BSSN reminds individuals not to share passwords with others, even with close individuals such as partners, and to change passwords at least every three months. “We emphasise the importance of changing passwords at least once every three months, with the recommendation to avoid using personal names. The stronger and more complex the passwords, the higher the level of security they provide,” Ariandi advised.
Moreover, the BSSN invites the public to participate in literacy programmes to improve cyberspace literacy and promote digital security awareness. These programmes provide an in-depth understanding of cybersecurity and practical guidance on protecting oneself from digital threats. Participants will learn the importance of safeguarding personal data, recognising signs of cyberattacks, implementing network security practices, and optimising technology usage to mitigate financial risks and other threats.
BSSN provides various educational content on cybersecurity through its official social media platforms, such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. The educational content is packaged in an appealing and easily understandable manner, addressing the concerns and hot topics within the community.
“We address the common concerns experienced by the public, such as inaccessible social media accounts or sudden inability to access mobile banking. These are issues currently happening in society, and we transform them into content that can directly resonate with the public,” concluded Ariandi.
