The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the People’s Government of Luyang District, Hefei City, have formalised a partnership to establish “The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Hefei Institute of Technology Innovation”. This collaborative venture is poised to become a nexus of cutting-edge technological advancement, fostering profound industry-academic research cooperation and the cultivation of exceptional talents.
This institute will spearhead a series of projects with a specific focus on biomedical sensing precision technology and aerospace information. By concentrating on these fields, it aims to propel scientific research development, facilitate academic exchanges, nurture future experts, and facilitate the transfer of knowledge.
An integral player in this endeavour is a Japanese multinational imaging and electronics company, leveraging its substantial research capabilities and academic prowess to serve as the prime technological innovation platform for sub-cooperation within the Hefei region.
Hefei City, situated within one of the nation’s key development hubs, is home to the first national laboratories and boasts one of the highest concentrations of scientific installations in the country. In addition to the institute’s core mission, there’s a commitment to building sustainable startup incubation centres to drive innovation within emerging industries. Local economic development needs will be seamlessly integrated into the research agenda, with a keen emphasis on developing critical core technologies and promoting their practical applications.
The Vice President, responsible for Research and Innovation at PolyU and the Deputy Governor of Luyang District Government, Hefei City, signed the agreement on behalf of both parties. Other high-ranking members of PolyU and the Hefei government were also present.
Beyond the formal agreement, the delegation embarked on a comprehensive visit to local universities and research institutes. They also explored opportunities for collaboration with relevant industrial chain enterprises situated in Luyang District. These engagements facilitated in-depth exchanges and discussions, laying the groundwork for future industry-academic research cooperation.
PolyU will bring its expertise in basic research and innovative technology to this collaboration. This places it at the forefront of technological advancement, poised to tackle complex challenges and drive innovation that has the potential to redefine industries and shape the future of technology.
The Institute’s primary focus on biomedical sensing precision technology promises to transform healthcare and diagnostics by creating highly sensitive sensors, enabling earlier disease detection and more accurate treatment. Simultaneously, its work in the aerospace information sector has wide-reaching implications, advancing aviation technology, satellite communication, telecommunications, and data analysis.
The Institute’s core mission revolves around scientific research development, fostering collaboration among experts with diverse skill sets to tackle complex problems. This approach yields innovative solutions that push the boundaries of what’s achievable.
Furthermore, the Institute prioritises academic exchanges, facilitating interactions between scholars, researchers, and students from different fields to spark interdisciplinary breakthroughs.
Talent training is a fundamental aspect of the Institute’s mission, equipping the next generation with the skills to excel in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Lastly, the Institute is dedicated to knowledge transfer, sharing its technological insights with industry and the broader scientific community, driving economic and societal progress through the adoption of cutting-edge solutions.
OpenGov Asia reported earlier that the PolyU and the Jinjiang City People’s Government launched the “Hong Kong Polytechnic University Jinjiang Institute of Technology Innovation” in September 2023. The Institute aims to advance technology and innovation in the Minhang region, with key figures from both institutions and government levels present at the ceremony, underlining their dedication to fostering innovation and education in the area.
