Viettel’s eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) system has garnered international acclaim, achieving the prestigious ISO 30107-3 certification for facial recognition (FaceID) at level 2. Viettel is the first and only enterprise in Vietnam to receive this top-tier certification, underscoring its leadership in biometric technology.
Developed by the Viettel Artificial Intelligence and Data Service Centre (Viettel AI), the eKYC system underwent rigorous testing and certification by Tayllorcox, a globally recognised ISO grant certification organisation. The system has been meticulously evaluated for its ability to accurately differentiate between genuine user faces and various forms of 2D and 3D forgeries, offering robust protection against facial biometric spoofing.
At level 1, biometric systems can detect basic fraud cases involving 2D methods like indirect face captures from screens, printed faces, or faces on cards. However, level 2 biometric systems like Viettel eKYC are designed to identify more sophisticated 3D fraud attempts, such as silicon masks, faces generated by advanced scanners, and deepfake videos. These advanced systems are adept at handling complex biometric fraud scenarios effectively.
Viettel eKYC underwent approximately 3,000 tests involving simulated 2D and 3D facial reconstructions to evaluate its performance. According to Tayllorcox’s tests, Viettel eKYC achieved a flawless error rate of 0%, surpassing the standard allowance of 1% errors, with no instances of rejecting legitimate users. This exceptional performance underscores the system’s reliability and accuracy.
“Viettel is dedicated to advancing AI technologies to provide businesses and individuals with cutting-edge solutions, particularly in authentication and electronic customer identification services crucial for numerous digital applications,” said Nguyen Manh Quy, Director of Viettel AI.
Viettel is the official partner of the Ministry of Public Security, offering chip-integrated citizen identity card authentication services. The Viettel eKYC system interfaces directly with the national citizen identity card database during electronic identification and authentication processes. This integration enables the system to swiftly detect and prevent biometric fraud within seconds and with high accuracy.
The versatility of Viettel eKYC extends across various functions, including issuing digital signatures, signing electronic contracts, and enhancing facial security measures. It facilitates operations such as opening accounts, issuing cards, and assessing loans for multiple banks, as well as managing fraud and credit risks. Additionally, it supports customer identification and authentication in sectors like insurance and telecommunications.
Since its implementation in 2020, Viettel eKYC has been integrated into numerous business systems, significantly reducing paperwork by over 80% and saving up to 70% of processing time.
Moreover, Viettel eKYC serves as the biometric authentication backbone for the Viettel Money application, ensuring secure financial transactions for more than 25 million customers. This integration highlights the system’s critical role in providing secure and efficient financial services.
The ISO 30107-3 certification is a testament to Viettel’s commitment to technological excellence and innovation. By achieving this certification, Viettel has demonstrated its ability to meet the highest international standards in facial recognition technology. This accomplishment not only enhances Viettel’s reputation in the global market but also reinforces its position as a leading provider of advanced biometric solutions.
Viettel’s ongoing efforts to improve and innovate its eKYC system are part of its broader strategy to advance AI technologies and provide cutting-edge solutions for digital applications. By leveraging its expertise in AI and biometric technology, Viettel aims to continue offering reliable and secure authentication services to businesses and individuals, thereby contributing to the growth and development of the digital economy.
Viettel’s eKYC system represents a significant milestone in the field of biometric authentication. With its ISO 30107-3 certification, the system sets a new standard for facial recognition technology, offering unmatched accuracy and security. As Viettel continues to innovate and expand its technological capabilities, it is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of digital authentication and customer identification services.
