The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) has expressed strong support for the recently approved statutory plans for the San Tin Technopole. These plans allocate significant land for Innovation and Technology (I&T) purposes, aiming to substantially enhance research and collaborative spaces available to the I&T industries in both Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. This development is set to drive the growth of I&T enterprises and contribute to the establishment of a comprehensive industry chain within the region.
The Chairman of HKSTP highlighted the importance of the San Tin Technopole plans. He stated that the extensive space allocated for all stages of the innovation and technology processes, including research, prototyping, pilot testing, and mass production, will accelerate development in various fields such as life and health technology, artificial intelligence and data science, advanced manufacturing, and new energy technology.
This initiative is expected to significantly enhance connections and resource allocation, thereby promoting the overall development of Hong Kong’s I&T sector and facilitating new industrialisation. He emphasised that the large-scale development plan would cultivate local I&T talent, attract outstanding researchers from the mainland and overseas, and provide young people with broader development opportunities.
Hong Kong is currently experiencing a golden era for I&T development, with I&T emerging as the new driving force for future economic growth. The San Tin Technopole, by integrating the Lok Ma Chau Loop with land in the Lok Ma Chau or San Tin area, will further promote I&T cooperation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, alongside the Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Zone.
As one of Hong Kong’s leading I&T institutions, HKSTP will continue to leverage its resources to advance the local I&T industry, enhance the I&T ecosystem, actively support government policies, and seize opportunities presented by the national “14th Five-Year Plan.” This aligns with the government’s “Twin Cities, Three Circles” development strategy, which is crucial for positioning Hong Kong as an international I&T hub.
The San Tin Technopole represents a significant milestone in Hong Kong’s I&T landscape. By providing extensive space for innovation and technology processes, the development will foster a conducive environment for research, development, and production. This initiative is expected to bring about a significant transformation in various technological fields, enhancing Hong Kong’s capabilities in life and health technology, artificial intelligence, data science, advanced manufacturing, and new energy technology.
The development of the San Tin Technopole is also poised to strengthen connections between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, promoting greater collaboration in I&T. This integration will facilitate the sharing of resources and expertise, thereby driving innovation and technological advancements in the region. Furthermore, the initiative will support the cultivation of local talent, attracting researchers from across the globe, and offering new opportunities for young people in Hong Kong.
The San Tin Technopole plans mark a significant advancement in Hong Kong’s I&T sector. With the backing of HKSTP and alignment with national and regional strategies, the development is set to become a key driver of economic growth and innovation. The initiative will not only enhance Hong Kong’s I&T capabilities but also contribute to the region’s overall industrialisation and technological progress, solidifying its position as a leading international I&T hub.
